We had the most delightful day on Belle Isola, one of the most beautiful islands in Italy's famous Lake Maggiore. Known for its serene atmosphere and scenic vistas, this charming island is perfect for a peaceful escape. We started our visit by strolling through the island's lush gardens, which are impeccably manicured and offer a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. The vibrant flowers, palm trees, and centuries-old architecture were simply mesmerizing.
The highlight of our trip was visiting the Palazzo Borromeo, a stunning villa that dates back to the 16th century. As we wandered through the grand halls, we marveled at the intricate frescoes and the opulent furnishings. It felt like stepping into a different era, and the panoramic views of Lake Maggiore from the villa's terrace were absolutely breathtaking. Entry to the Palazzo is €15, and it's open from 9 AM to 6 PM daily, which gives you plenty of time to explore its beautiful interiors.
What really captivated us about Belle Isola, besides the historical grandeur, were its tranquil gardens and pristine shoreline. We took a leisurely walk along the water's edge, where the gentle ripples of Lake Maggiore added to the peaceful atmosphere. The gardens, designed with an impressive variety of plants and flowers, are a perfect place to escape and connect with nature.
As we ventured deeper into the island's landscape, we discovered a charming little beach area where we spent some time soaking in the views of the lake. The calm water and the surrounding mountains made for a perfect, peaceful moment. The island's natural beauty was as enchanting as its architectural treasures. If you're planning your visit, don't forget to check out the lovely gardens, which are open daily from 8 AM to 7 PM. The entry is included with your Palazzo ticket, so you can explore both the gardens and the villa for a combined experience.
Visiting Belle Isola is incredibly easy if you're staying near the Lake Maggiore region. We took a scenic boat ride from Stresa, which took just about 15 minutes, and the views along the way were spectacular. You can also catch ferries from other nearby towns like Arona or Baveno, making it accessible from various parts of the lake.
The best time to visit Belle Isola is in the spring or summer, when the gardens are in full bloom and the weather is perfect for outdoor exploration. We also recommend arriving early in the day to avoid the crowds and get the most out of your visit. If you're staying overnight nearby, there are charming lakeside hotels where you can relax and soak in the beauty of the lake at sunset.
We truly believe that Belle Isola is one of the hidden gems of Lake Maggiore. From its peaceful ambiance to its rich history, this island offers a bit of everything for those seeking beauty, tranquility, and cultural enrichment. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a history lover, or simply someone looking to unwind in a picturesque setting, Belle Isola has something to offer. Don't miss the chance to explore this captivating island—it will undoubtedly leave you with unforgettable memories.
Our day at Belle Isola was nothing short of magical. The combination of lush gardens, historical architecture, and stunning lake views made it a truly memorable experience. Whether you're there for the rich history or the tranquil beauty, Belle Isola will surely capture your heart.
